The police were
unable to find Matt’s killer and as the weeks turned into months, the trail
went cold. After a year, it was regulated to the cold case files. There was no
trace of Matt’s child. The medical examiner had confirmed that Matt had been
pregnant at the time of his death, but couldn’t determine how old the fetus
might have been. It was presumed dead.
Ariel sank into a
deep funk with the knowledge of her husband’s infidelity. Everything she’d
worked for, believed in had been brutally revealed as a lie. Her own husband
was a shown to be a hypocrite. The PPP dissolved after the scandal was exposed.
She took a whole bottle of pills and died a few months after his death. Chantel
adopted her younger brothers.
Shortly after Matt’s
case was moved to the cold case files, Aaron received devastating news of their
own. His son, Byron, disappeared. Burke ran away shortly afterwards to look for
his brother. The police were unable to find either boy.
Not long after that,
the Vampire Council insisted on betrothing Benjamin to a female vampire. They
felt that they should work toward the prophecy themselves. It was better to
have the Chosen One under their control than their enemy’s control.
